Opel just released new info on the ecoFlex versions of their best selling cars, the Astra and the Corsa. The manufacturer said that it wants to produce greener cars based on the original models but with a very low impact on the price. The Astra ecoFlex will have a 110 HP 1,7 litre turbodiesel engine that has an average fuel consumption of 4,5 l/100 km.You might think that this is a slow car but the top speed is arround 188 km/h so performance has not been sacrificed.

In order to get these results the engineers had to put a lot of elbow grease into this project and totaly change the engines electronics, the idle revs and a lot of other stuff. But it seems that it payd off.The car is now 30 kg liter and the ground clearence is smaller in order to give the car a more streamline body.

The smaller Corsa is powered by a 1,3 litre turbodiesel that developes 75 HP and 170 Nm with a top speed of 168 km/h.The ecoFlex version has been striped of almost 45 kg and gets smaller tires to reduce drag.

All we have to do is wait for an ecoFlex version of the Insignia ich will hit the streets in 2009.
